1 day course: Violence - Difficult, Disturbing, Dangerous Behaviour.

This course provides unique training to the health and social care environments. It is particularly suited to practitioners and frontline managers in many settings including Doctors surgeries, Accident and Emergency, hospital and residential care, substance misuse, Criminal Justice, day care, homeless accommodation, services delivered by Housing Associations, youth services, Child Protection, Mental Heath, and outreach and Community safety services including the Police and Community Safety Wardens.

Using narration and dramatisation of real case studies, the course explores the feelings involved in dealing with extreme behaviour at the point where the situation is critical, and considers in detail the skills necessary to arrive at a successful resolution.

This course approaches dangerous and disturbed behaviour from the point of view of the practitioner or front line worker/manager having to deal with it, but from an employers perspective it adds immense value to their duty of care responsibilities within the context of health and safety legislation.

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

·        Explain the relevance of the “Vacuum Concept” in managing dysphonic aggression.

·        Identify ways of safely managing their own emotional and bodily reactions when under threat.

·        Describe their automatic protocol for dealing with imminent threat.
